It has been a long time since we did the necessary work to this site. We apologize. Over year of 2010 we intend on putting current important information about our operations, training schedule and events as they happen.

The Mt Erie Fire Department, officially called Skagit County Fire Protection District 11, is a class 8 rural fire department covering 15 square miles on the South end of Fidalgo Island South of Anacortes, Washington to the Island Skagit County line at Deception Pass Bridge.

Overseen by an elected board of 3 Commissioners, the District is staffed by 25 dedicated volunteer firefighters who respond to an average of 250 alarms a year. The Chief and Assistant Chief receive a monthly stipend for their time and the firefighters receive a stipend for each drill and alarm they attend.

The District operates 2 fire stations located at central points in the District. Each station responds a class A pumper, a BLS aid unit, and a brush truck. Station 1 also houses a 3000 gallon water tender. Station 2 houses a 1978 reserve class A pumper for when the others are out for maintenance or at training.

Firefighters drill for 2 hours each week on Monday nights covering firefighting and EMS skills. In addition to Monday nights, members attend weekend sessions for 4 to 8 hours for specialized training and recertification sessions for wildland firefighting and other skills. Many members are instructors for the Skagit County Training Officers Recruit Academy.

It is my pleasure to be the Chief of these dedicated volunteers who give of their time and skills to protect the citizens of Fidalgo Island. Please search our site for information and if you have a question, send it to us and we will do our best to provide an answer or get you in contact with someone who can.
